Resources for healing the inner child

The following resources have either helped us in some way, or come highly recommended by others:

Books and cards

The Anger Trap: Free Yourself from the Frustrations that Sabotage Your Life
by Les Carter
If you grew up with angry parents (whether rageful, passive-aggressive, or hidden), this book is for you. If your parents couldn't handle their anger well, you didn't learn how to, either. But there is hope. You can learn how to manage your anger and improve your relationships. This book can really help you understand and deal with your anger—and forgive yourself in the process.

Toxic Parents: Overcoming Their Hurtful Legacy and Reclaiming Your Life
by Susan Forward
Let's face it: if we're going to heal our inner child, we must face some truths about ourselves, and about our parents. Some parents are toxic, but those of us who were raised by them are sometimes slow to come to this realization. If you have a difficult relationship with your parents, you should probably pick up a copy of this. It can be very enlightening.

You Can Heal Your Life
by Louise Hay

Inner Child Cards, A Fairy-Tale Tarot
by Isha Lerner
We really like this deck. Each trump is represented by a fairy tale. Suits are Wands, Crystals, Hearts, and Swords. This is a gentle, beautiful deck that really illuminates the inner child. Strongly recommended!

Inner Child Cards Workbook
by Isha Lerner
Isha now has a workbook to accompany the cards.

Movies

We have featured movies that deal specifically with inner child issues on our Movies about healing the inner child page.

We also recommend movies with spiritual themes on our Movies with spiritual themes page.

Other teachers we like

No one is "too broken" to heal. No matter what may have happened to you in the past, you can heal and live a happy, abundant life. These other teachers, and we at Brightill, are proof of this:

  • Iyanla Vanzant—Iyanla lived through abuse, poverty, and teenage pregnancy. As a young welfare mother, she turned her life around.
  • Louise Hay—She grew up in an abusive household, but she learned how to turn her life around and heal it. Better still, she learned how to teach others the secret to healing.
  • Neale Donald Walsch—Neale lost his health, his job, and his home. After becoming homeless, he became open to his healing and was able to turn his life around.
  • Tony Robbins—Tony is a great example of how you can turn your life around. He did, and now he has a multi-million dollar a year business helping others do the same.
